Testing Process for RoHS compliance

RoHS was imposed by the EU in 2006 and all products in EU markets should pass RoHS compliance. This regulation prohibits the usage of several substances that are considered to be hazardous to the environment and dangerous during manufacturing and recycling processes.
RoHS testing is mostly performed by Spectrometry screening technique. The product is disassembled into parts and each one is tested separately.

For your reference, during the RoHS testing process for UPS Keen 1000 USB, the item was completely taken apart into 146 pieces. Each piece was individually tested for harmful chemicals, starting with UPS housing down to plastic gaskets and small diodes on the mainboard.
